A journey of transformation through loss, healing, and hope
My Journey of Transformation
I grew up on a family farm with four siblings, surrounded by nature and raised in a Christian home that gave me a deep foundation of faith and family values. My childhood was carefree—filled with the simple joys of farm life and close-knit community.
But adulthood brought challenges I never anticipated. Early marriage and motherhood after high school, a chronically ill child requiring intensive care, divorce, multiple house fires, and a personal cancer diagnosis tested my resilience in ways I couldn't have imagined.
Yet nothing could have prepared me for November 2007, when my fast-track life came to a screeching halt. My son Shaun died in an accidental shooting, and I was plunged into a darkness I never knew existed. As a mother of four and successful business owner, I found myself drowning in PTSD, profound grief, and suicidal despair.
I struggled for years with profound depression and despair. Despite my professional accomplishments, the business I'd co-founded, the awards I'd received—none of it mattered. I had lost my sense of self entirely and had to rebuild everything from the ground up.
Through counseling, EMDR therapy, spiritual practices, prayer, and the unwavering support of loved ones and the community that strongly supported me, I slowly emerged from the darkness—stronger, wiser, and more grateful than I thought possible. My journey through devastating loss became my calling, and I wrote "Grief Warrior" to offer hope and companionship to others walking through their own valleys of loss.
Professional Background & Current Work
For over 25 years, I co-owned and operated a marketing firm, where I developed expertise in business strategy, leadership, and communication. I hold a degree in Marketing and built a successful career helping businesses grow and thrive.
Following Shaun's death and my subsequent healing journey, I pursued certifications in life and grief coaching to better understand the process of transformation and to help others navigate their own difficult transitions.
Today, I lead grief support groups at my church, where I helped establish a six week program called "Healing Silent Wounds—Surviving the Death of a Child." This program provides a safe, compassionate space for parents who have experienced the unimaginable pain of losing a child, offering them support, understanding, and hope for healing.
Through my book, speaking engagements, and support groups, I work to help others find their way from darkness to light, offering the same hope and tools that transformed my own journey through grief.

My personal healing journey led me to pursue professional training to better understand the process of grief recovery and transformation, and to support others on their own journeys.

Family & Personal Life
Family is at the heart of everything I do. I am blessed to be the mother of four adult sons and many precious grandchildren. Though I lost my son Shaun in 2007, his memory continues to inspire my work and my life.
I divide my time between Bonita Springs, Florida, where I enjoy the warmth and sunshine, and Northern Wisconsin, where I find renewal in nature, the changing seasons, and quiet reflection by the lake.
My journey through devastating loss has taught me that healing is possible, that hope can be found even in the darkest valleys, and that sharing our stories can light the way for others. This understanding drives my passion for writing and speaking about grief, loss, and the path to transformation.
